So we just found out that Ch10 now have the rights to screen Backyard Ashes on free to air and they are starting straight away off the back of the BBL season with a screening this coming Monday night!

As a bonus today the production company are releasing the BYA Bloopers reel! Only seen by cast and crew before this!

Oz so white? Diversity on Australian screens – SMH – 23.Jan.16

It started with a hashtag, and it’s turned into a juggernaut. The #OscarsSoWhite campaign has put Hollywood in the spotlight. It has led to headlines, talk of boycotts and a plan to change the procedures for Academy membership and Oscar voting.
It came from highlighting a simple fact. For the second year, all the nominees in the acting category at the Academy Awards are white. There are nominations for two films with an African-American focus – the Rocky reboot Creed and the rap biopic Straight Outta Compton – but they’ve gone to a white actor (Sylvester Stallone) and white screenwriters.

Yet for many – including those closely identified with the campaign – the focus is not solely on omission. It’s also about opportunity. The hashtag was started by April Reign, managing editor of a theatre website called BroadwayBlack.com, and this is a point she’s keen to emphasise. (more…)

Quentin Tarantino to pay homage to Australian film in Sydney

Quentin Tarantino is set host a live Q and A in Sydney before screening his two favourite Australian “Western-ish” films.

The newly established People’s Republic of Movies, will hold an exclusive one-night-only double bill of Australian cinema plus a live Q&A hosted by Oscar Award-winning writer/director, Tarantino, at The Star, Sydney on January 15.

Tarantino, who is in Australia promoting The Hateful Eight, will host the evening the evening which pays homage to Australian cinema. (more…)

ABC loads up on factual and comedies – 2016 Lineup

Documentaries investigating Australia’s war in Afghanistan, the fight against the country’s ice epidemic and the state of the heath and school systems will screen on the ABC next year.

The comedy slate includes two series starring Utopia’s Luke McGregor and six pilots, with viewers voting to determine which pilot goes to a series.

The ABC also confirmed its flagship channel will be available to live-stream on iview from December and that it plans to broadcast all content in HD from next June.

ABC director of TV Richard Finlayson said at the upfronts launch: “As the national broadcaster we will continue our commitment to Australian content, delivering a high-quality, deep and diverse slate.” (more…)
